At Point Hope, public safety has been thoughtfully considered from the very beginning. Envisioned as a trails-first community, Point Hope was designed to encourage walkability, connectivity and safer everyday movement for residents, visitors and families alike.
Throughout the community, miles of pedestrian trails connect homes to parks, schools, shops and gathering spaces. Sidewalks, monitored crosswalks and roundabouts help calm traffic and create a safer environment for drivers, cyclists and pedestrians. Narrower, interconnected neighborhood streets disperse traffic and reduce congestion throughout the community,
Beyond Point Hope itself, infrastructure planning has played an important role in supporting long-term public safety and regional connectivity. The landowner donated more that 10 acres of frontage along Clements Ferry Road to support roadway improvements and future transportation needs. Traffic impacts in the Cainhoy area have also been studied since 2014, with ongoing updates helping local leaders prepare for future growth.
A regional traffic study commissioned by Berkeley County, the South Carolina Department of Transportation (SCDOT) and the City of Charleston helped guide infrastructure improvements, including the widening of Clements Ferry Road.
As part of the City of Charleston and Berkeley County, Point Hope residents are served by both the City of Charleston Police Department and the Berkeley County Sheriff’s Office. Looking ahead, Point Hope will continue coordinating with local municipalities on future public safety resources, including fire station planning and future park locations, helping the community grow responsibly and thoughtfully over time.
