It’s Official: South Carolina is One of the World’s Greatest Locations for Golf!
If you love golf, then the South Carolina Lowcountry is a good place to be. Our state was named among the top five golf destinations in the world and the best in the country for 2023 by the International Association of Golf Travel Operators. The Palmetto State is the only United States destination to make the world list.
The awards were created to celebrate outstanding service, performance and quality throughout the global golf tourism industry. More than 500 golf tour operators from around the world voted for the destinations that delivered the best golf experiences to their customers in 2022.
South Carolina is home to more than 350 golf courses, and a large majority are located along the coast in the Lowcountry. Here in Charleston, you’ll find a diverse mix of options, ranging from the private course offerings of clubs like the Country Club of Charleston, Yeaman’s Hall and the Daniel Island Club, to the resort courses on Kiawah Island, Seabrook Island and Wild Dunes, to the City of Charleston’s outstanding municipal golf course on James Island.
Adding to its appeal as a golf destination, the Palmetto State hosts many high-profile golf events, including the annual RBC Heritage on Hilton Head Island and the BMW Charity Pro-Am in Greenville. Tournaments that have been hosted in the state include the 2021 PGA Championship at the famed Ocean Course at Kiawah Island Golf Resort, the 2021 Palmetto Championship at Congaree (which replaced the canceled RBC Canadian Open on the PGA TOUR), and THE CJ CUP in South Carolina in 2022.
So whether you’re in Charleston to visit or if you live here full-time, if you’re a golfer, you’re in the right place!
